The weather on your tour generally depends on the season you are traveling to Peru. April to September is the dry season. November to February is the rainy season. March and October are considered the shoulder seasons. This means the climate can be really unpredictable. Peru is in the southern hemisphere, so when it's summer in The USA and Europe, it is winter in Peru. June to August are the peak winter months in Peru, and November to February is summer. The rainy season in the Andes actually falls during the summer months. So although there are warmer temperatures, the weather is wet. Weather patterns have become more variable in the past few years. This is why we recommend that you prepare for sun and rain all year round.

Temperatures on your  Vacation Package, are generally consistent throughout the year. Mornings and evenings are always cold. Make sure you bring a fleece jacket for the mornings and a down jacket for the evenings. Once the sun rises, you should be comfortable hiking and touring in short sleeves. Long pants are encouraged to help from the mosquitos which can be an issue. Both in Aguas Calientes and lower elevations. Views can be affected all year round. The Inca Site is situated in a cloud forest so low-lying clouds and rain are common. Cloud cover is more common during the rainy season. However, the cloud generally lifts as the sun comes over the mountains and burns away the clouds. Check out our informative blog about The Best Months to Visit  Peru

Elevation Gain - Ascents and Descents

Machu Picchu is located at an elevation of 2,430 m / 7,972 feet above sea level in The Peruvian Andes. High altitude, of course, can cause altitude sickness. This includes symptoms like headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. People generally don’t suffer from altitude symptoms at this elevation, thankfully. However, you may still feel sick from the altitude. Headaches or feeling tired, are the most common symptoms. We recommend spending a few days in Cusco before your excursion so that your body can adjust to less oxygen. Then you will be dropping in elevation for your visit to the Inca City! Inside the archaeological site, there are a number of steps and high and low sections. Some are higher than others, depending on the circuit you purchased. Here is an elevation chart for inside these impressive Inca ruins.

This ensures a sustainable and healthy future for its citizens. It also plays a significant role in Peru's global commitment to environmental protection. The environment is a vital resource to the country´s economic stability. The importance of environmental awareness in Peru cannot be overstated. This nation is a treasure trove of biodiversity. This is a testament to the enduring traditions of its indigenous communities. Peru is a country where the effects of climate change are acutely felt. Sustainable agriculture and responsible tourism are pivotal to the economy. This means that the protection of vital water resources is non-negotiable. This Inca archaeological site is a Wonder of the World. A Machu Picchu Tour Package is a bucket list item for many. This automatically means that it will receive a lot of visitors, which needs to be controlled. The daily limit is 2000 people per day. These are shared over a variety of entrance times and circuits. Peru's environmental challenges and triumphs resonate globally. They navigate the intricate interplay of conservation, culture, and development.

How is Valencia Travel a Sustainable Travel Company?

We have spent years investing in the remote Andean communities we hike through. We provide "chocolatadas" and training courses for local people. We support women’s rights in Andean communities and our commitment to porter welfare.

We treat our staff right! Both in the Cusco office and out on a trek in The Andes. We pay fair (above-market) wages, provide benefits, and offer flexible working conditions for our staff. We also pay our taxes (You would be surprised how many companies don´t!).

Being a Responsible Travel Company is Vital.

For Valencia Travel, Responsible Tourism means a number of things. Protecting the environment, making ethical choices, respecting and facilitating local culture, and being good members of a global community. As a responsible travel company,  we are serious. Especially when it comes to promoting responsible and sustainable travel in Peru.

A Machu Picchu tour is a once in a lifetime experience. Sometimes you just have to sit back and take it all in!

So what exactly are we doing at Valencia Travel?

We Treat Our Staff Well

Being a responsible tour operator starts at home. That means that our operations center around the well-being of our staff team. This includes the office staff, Inca Trail porters, guides, cooks, and muleteers. See more in our About Us section.

We Facilitate Opportunities for Local Communities

From the beginning, we have been committed to providing work to those whose lands we pass through.

We Regularly Give Back to the Community

We have always believed that we need to do more than simply operate our tours responsibly.  We offer free community training and provide donations and "chocolatadas" to remote communities. We also visit local rural communities on most of our tour packages. This provides a sustainable income to the community members.

Ongoing Dedication to Sustainability in Tourism

We recently collaborated on a tree-planting activity in The Rukha Community. (See our video).  We continue to improve, to keep on top of our sustainability initiatives.

We are proud that we’ve been able to keep our treks at a reasonable price. We also take our commitment to sustainability and responsible trekking, extremely seriously. This ensures that our trips remain accessible to the eco-friendly traveler.
