Weather on Machu Picchu Trips
The weather on your tour generally depends on the season you are traveling to Peru. Generally speaking, April to September is the dry season, November to February is the rainy season, and March and October are considered the shoulder seasons – which means the climate can be unpredictable. Peru is in the southern hemisphere, so when it's summer in The USA and Europe, it is winter in Peru. June to August are the peak winter months in Peru, and November to February is summer. However, the rainy season in the Andes actually falls during the summer months, so although there are warmer temperatures, the weather is wet. The weather patterns have become more variable in the past few years, so we recommend that you prepare for sun and rain all year round.
As far as temperatures on your Vacation Package, they are generally consistent throughout the year. Mornings and evenings are always cold. Make sure you bring a fleece jacket for the mornings and a down jacket for the evenings. Once the sun comes up you should be comfortable hiking and touring the archaeological site in short sleeves. Long pants are encouraged to help from the mosquitos which can be an issue in Aguas Calientes and lower elevations. Views can be affected on your Machu Picchu excursion all year round. The Inca Site is situated in a cloud forest so low-lying clouds and rain are common. Cloud cover is more common during the rainy season, but in general, the cloud lifts as the sun comes over the mountains and burns away the clouds. Check out our informative blog about The Best Months to Visit Peru.

Elevation Gain - Ascents and Descents
Machu Picchu is located at an elevation of 2,430 m / 7,972 feet above sea level in The Peruvian Andes. High altitude can cause altitude sickness, with symptoms like headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. People generally don’t suffer from altitude symptoms at this elevation, however, you may still feel sick from the altitude. Headaches or feeling tired, are the most common symptoms. We recommend spending a few days in Cusco before your excursion so that your body can adjust to less oxygen. Then you will be dropping in elevation for your Machu Picchu visit! Inside the archaeological site, there are a number of steps and high and low sections, depending on the circuit you purchased Here is an elevation chart for inside the Inca ruins.

Indigenous Communities Around Machu Picchu
Many indigenous communities in Peru rely on the environment for their livelihoods and cultural identity. Environmental awareness is essential to protect their rights and ensure that their traditional knowledge is respected. In the Andean region, you will see a number of traditional farming communities, who use the same farming practices as they have done, for generations. Especially in The Sacred Valley and the lands around Machu Picchu, the land is incredibly fertile and local farmers depend on this for their livelihood.
Sacred Valley Farmlands at Dawn
Climate Change In The Cusco Region
Peru is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including glacial melting in the Andes and extreme weather events. Raising awareness about climate change is essential for mitigating these effects and adapting to new challenges. Remember, the famous Rainbow Mountain has only recently been discovered! This is due to the snow caps melting at this high elevation of The Ausangate Mountain Range. Previously it was covered in snow. The Inca Trail can also be affected by global warming with higher rivers due to the surrounding icecaps melting.

Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security in Peru
Peru is a major producer of agricultural products, including quinoa and coffee. Environmental awareness in Peru is critical for promoting sustainable farming practices that preserve soil and water resources. This is why it is really important to not pollute water and agricultural resources while on your Machu Picchu Trips.

Peru's natural beauty, including the Amazon River, and the ecosystems on your Machu Picchu visits are a major driver of its economy through tourism. Environmental conservation is essential for preserving these attractions and maintaining the tourism industry. For this, visits to these iconic sites have to be sustainable and there are rules in place for their preservation, as well as the surrounding ecosystems.

Water Resources Near Machu Picchu
Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and many Peruvians rely on rivers and lakes for their water supply. Protecting these water sources from pollution close to Machu Picchu is vital not only for people on their excursions but also for the local communities. This is why it is important to use sustainable practices such as adequate disposal of garbage and the "packing in, packing out" philosophy on your tours.

Illegal Logging and Mining in Peru
Peru faces challenges from illegal logging and mining activities, which can have devastating effects on the environment. This is especially so in the Amazon rainforest, just below the cloud forests of Machu Picchu! Cusco also has a lot of mining activity which is detrimental to the local environment. Environmental awareness can help combat these illegal activities and promote sustainable natural resource management.

Long-term Economic Viability
Sustainable environmental practices are essential for the long-term economic well-being of Peru. Environmental degradation can lead to increased costs, reduced agricultural productivity, and the loss of natural resources. If Machu Picchu visits are not adequately controlled, this could negatively impact the local environment.
Machu Picchu Group
In conclusion, environmental awareness in Peru is crucial for preserving the country's unique natural resources, protecting the rights and livelihoods of Peru´s indigenous communities, and ensuring a sustainable and healthy future for its citizens. It also plays a significant role in Peru's global commitments to environmental protection and its economic stability. The importance of environmental awareness in Peru cannot be overstated. This nation is both a treasure trove of biodiversity and a testament to the enduring traditions of its indigenous communities. It is a country where the effects of climate change are acutely felt, where sustainable agriculture and responsible tourism are pivotal to the economy, and where the protection of vital water resources is non-negotiable. This Inca archaeological site is a Wonder of the World and a Machu Picchu Tour Package is a bucket list item for many. This automatically means that both will receive a lot of visitors, which needs to be controlled. The daily limit is 2000 people per day. These are shared over a variety of entrance times.
