Chachapoyas

Until recently, the northern Peruvian city of Chachapoyas remained relatively isolated from the rest of the country. That has changed in recent years, with regular scheduled flights from Lima to Jaén, near Chachapoyas. This is great news for tourists, as Chachapoyas and the surrounding region are absolutely brimming with manmade and natural attractions, such as cloud forests, plunging canyons and towering waterfalls. The city takes its name from the Chachapoyas civilization that once thrived in this area, known as the “Warriors of the Clouds,” who built incredible structures, most notably the huge fortress of Kuelap.
